Season Timeline

Boys

High School Season
The high school season for Grade 10-12 boys in Richmond runs from September until November. Most high schools will have at least one team with some schools running both a Senior (Grade 11-12) and a Junior (Grade 10) team in the fall.

All high school teams in Richmond participate in the Richmond Secondary Schools Athletic Association (RSSAA) league. League games start mid to late September with teams playing one or two best 3 out of 5 matches per week. Junior games will typically start at 3:30pm and Senior games typically start at 7:00pm.

The top teams at the Junior level qualify for the Vancouver & District Championships and can qualify for the Invitational Provincial Championships afterward. Teams at the Senior level are split into tiers (A, AA, AAA) depending on school size and the top teams from each tier will qualify for the Lower Mainland Zone Championships competing against Burnaby/New West and Vancouver teams. The top teams from the Zones move on to compete at the Provincial Championships at the end of November.

The season for Grade 8-9 boys in Richmond happens later on in the year and runs from March until May. The top teams from the Juvenile (Grade 9) and Bantam (Grade 8) move on to compete at the Vancouver & District Championships.

House League
The house league for boys runs during the fall is designed for younger athletes who do not have a high school season but want to practice and play during the off season or train for the upcoming club season.

The house league runs once a week and will have instruction as well as gameplay during that evening. Athletes who are in elementary school are welcome to join the house league as well.

Club Season

The club season runs from January until May with tryouts occurring in late November or early December of the previous year, with the exception being 13U boys. Club teams usually tend to be more competitive in nature. Teams will typically practice 2-3 times per week and participate in 4-6 tournaments per season with Provincials at the end of April or the beginning of May.

 

13U Boys

The 13U Boys program is the introductory program to the sport. The program will introduce athletes to the sport and focus on teaching the fundamentals of the game in a fun way. Players typically will not be assigned positions and will learn to develop all the different skills of the game. There are no tryouts for 13U Boys but instead the program will be open to the first 30 participants registered.

 

14U Boys

The 14U Boys program will continue to focus on the developmental aspect of the game with a large emphasis on teaching players the fundamentals while giving all players playing time. Players will begin to be assigned positions but may play multiple positions. Typically Air Attack runs two teams at 14U with a selection of about 24 athletes during tryouts.

 

15U Boys

The 15U Boys program will start with a large focus on the development of fundamentals but will shift to a focus on competition. Players will develop all skills and while some players will play multiple positions, the majority of players will primarily play one position during the season. Typically Air Attack runs two teams at 15U with a selection of about 24 athletes during tryouts.

 

16U Boys

The 16U Boys program is the beginning of the competition phase. Players will begin to specialize in one position and will teams will primarily focus on competition. Typically Air Attack runs two teams at 15U with a selection of 20-24 athletes at tryouts.

Summer Programs

Girls

High School Season

House League
The house league for girls runs at the same time as the club season. The house league is designed for athletes who are newer to the sport and want to continue to play and develop, OR athletes who are unable to commit to the full schedule of a club team.

The house league runs once a week and will have instruction as well as gameplay during that evening and will be split into a 13U/14U division as well as a 15U/16U division.
